Do Consider People That Usually Wear Name Brand Clothes Or Shop At Name Brand Stores A Prep ?

This Is Kind Of A Stupid Question,
But I Usually Shop At Name Brand Stores And Wear Name Brand Clothes, At Least When I Dress Casual I Do, And I've Heard People Say Stuff Like That's Preppy...

A prep was originally someone that was in the culture that went to preparatory school (a college to get you ready for college). Typically they had more money and lived in a different culture (clothes, activities, speech, etc.) Most people not in this class probably resented them and thought they were snobs (which I'm sure some were) and used the term preppy (or preppie) to put them down and then labeled everyone else that seemed to be like them as preps as well.
Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

"Preppy, also spelled preppie, is a chiefly North American adjective or noun traditionally used in relation to northeastern private university-preparatory schools, as well as those who attend some of America's prestigious private colleges and universities. These characteristics include particular subcultural speech, vocabulary, accent, dress, mannerisms, etiquette, and entitled (assuming privilege) life view. The term "preppy" is similar in formation to hippie or yuppie, and it had great currency in the 1970s and 1980s. The term first reached a wider audience in the 1970 film Love Story, where Ali MacGraw's character uses it as a derisive term of endearment.
Rowing is a sport that is commonly associated with being preppy.

The associated verb prep is also is used as an abbreviation of prepared or attended secondary school. The more recent slang derivation prep has taken on an often derogatory meaning, associated not with any particular race, community or schools. In slang it is specially as used by young people, "prep" more generally denotes superficiality and preoccupation with appearance and wealth" from Wikipedia.com

Refuse the label and just be yourself. You wear the clothes you like and be appreciative of your parents' ability to buy them for you. As long as you don't look down on others and never treat people bad according to how they dress you'll be alright.

Chandler, I was responding to Bro. Armando's definition. Meaning no matter what style of clothes we wear we need to try to except eachother and appreciate their style of clothing... even if it is different than our own.
I know you very well and you do not come across as a prep to me. love u!!
